Epidemiology
- Rare deep counterpart of cutaneous fibrous histiocytoma (less than 1%)
- Adults most commonly affected (age 20-50)
Clinical Features
- Deep painless soft tissue mass
- Slow growing
Location
- Deep soft tissues of extremities
- Trunk
- Head and neck
Imaging
MRI: non-specific soft tissue mass hat is isointense to muscle on T1 and hyperintense on T2, often with brisk enhancement
Pathology
- Storiform pattern of fibrohistiocytic cells
- Xanthoma cells and giant cells may be present
- No marked atypia
Genetics
PRKCB fusions in some cases
Treatment
Wide local excision with clear margins
Prognosis
- Low metastatic potential
- Local recurrence if incompletely excised is 20%
