Epidemiology
- Benign fibromyxoid lesion
- Peak incidence in middle-aged adults but wide age range of 4 - 86 years
Clinical Features
- Slowly growing nodule on digit
- Often painless
- May cause nail deformity
Location
- Periungual and subungual region with great toe most commonly affected digit
- Palm of hand and sole of feet
Imaging
- Plain radiograph: may show bone erosion
- MRI: T2 hyperintense myxoid mass with fibrosis
Pathology
Myxoid or collagenous stroma with bland fibroblasts
Genetics
Deletion of RB1 gene
Treatment
Surgical excision with adequate margins to reduce recurrence
Prognosis
- Low recurrence if completely excised
- Up to 27% local recurrence rate
